MAC Light Year Mineralize Skinfinish Review + Swatches

Hey Guys!
As you know, I hauled several pieces from the MAC Heavenly Creature Collection launched at MAC counters on July 5th. Previously, I reviewed MAC Pleasureseeker Lipstick and this review will focus solely on MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Light Year.

"A luxurious velvet-soft powder with high-frost metallic finish. Smoothes on; adds buffed-up highlights to cheeks and brows, or an overall ultra-deluxe polish to the face."

Light year is described on the MAC website as a peachy pink with gold shimmer. Light Year is a limited edition mineralize skin finish which is currently SOLD OUT online, but may still be available at local MAC counters (check availability).

When MAC releases new Mineralize Skinfinishes, they tend to sell fast. Mineralize Skinfinishes (or MSFs for short) are controversial in the sense that some people love them, while other people hate them. Those who hate them tend to criticize their longevity and their shimmery finish. Those who love them tend to emphasize their multipurpose use, and beautiful finish. I fall into the later category; those who love them. Depending on the Mineralize Skinfinish they can be used as a highlight, blush, or bronzer. MAC even suggests using it as an "all-over polish to the face", but I have never used these for that purpose as I find it would be too much shimmer (I prefer a concentrated highlight). As for the finish, MSFs give a beautiful sheen to the face. I have MSFs which work great as a bronzer for beautiful sun kissed glow, others which work great as a blush or lightly dusted over a blush for added colour/glow, or strictly as a highlight. My favourite MSFs are the ones I can use both as a blush and highlight, which is the case with Light Year! I personally have never had a problem with the longevity of a MSF. True, they do not last as long as, lets say, a matte blush, but they last me a full work day and that's all that matters. As for the claim they accentuate pores, this can be true. Certain MSFs with larger shimmer particles do have the tendency to accentuate porous skin. However, if your pores aren't large to begin with, you shouldn't have a problem. What I also love about Light Year is that you can swirl the entire product together for a beautiful peachy pink golden glow, or you can stick strictly to the edges for a more pink/peach, less golden effect. I enjoy wearing this product both ways.
